Academic Probation

If a student does not pass all courses enrolled in any semester, the student may be put on academic probation for the next semester. While on academic probation, if the student fails to pass all the courses again, the student may not be allowed to continue enrollment at TOPS and will be required to enroll in another educational agency. If students fail multiple courses in a single semester or several courses over numerous semesters, then an online school may not be the most appropriate placement for the student.

The student and family will receive in writing of being placed on Academic Probation at the start of the next semester. This letter will update the student and family on previous grades and attendance while giving action steps to ensure students pass all courses. These steps are as follows:

  • The student must log in daily and complete coursework to ensure they are not procrastinating during the week.

  • The student must promptly reach out to teachers with questions.

  • The student must check email and Canvas messages at least three times a week and respond to all communications from teachers and school staff.

  • The student must check in with the Counselor or TOPS administrator at least once weekly to ensure the student is on track to complete work for the week.

If the student shows improvement throughout the semester while on Academic Probation, this status will be removed. However, if at any point, it can be reinstated and follow the same process.
