Advanced Placement Courses at TOPS

Advanced Placement Courses (or AP) are classes offered through CollegeBoard that provide a more rigorous curriculum and in-depth look at the content. Students who are interested in taking an AP course should be aware that there will be higher expectations and a slightly heavier workload. There are, however, many benefits to adding AP courses to your schedule. The more rigorous content exploration will prepare you for collegiate level courses, and you will have the opportunity to earn college credit by passing the AP exam at the end of the course. Having AP courses on your transcript will also make you stand out to potential colleges. Please understand that it is a requirement for all students who take an AP Course to take the AP exam.  This exam is in-person at one of our testing locations across the state of Tennessee.

You can read more about Advanced Placement directly on the website: https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/what-is-ap

It should also be noted that a weight of 5 percentage points is added to each grading period in any AP Course at TOPS. More details about the weighted grading policy can be found here.

***At TOPS, AP courses are only offered in the spring semester due to AP testing only being in the spring***
