1 Unexcused Absence

Attendance email from principal is sent.

This is a recurring event for every unexcused absence accrued moving forwards. 

Students are expected to submit missed work and make any changes to behaviors that prohibit them from turning in work. Parents are expected to speak with the student, fill out the attached form, and monitor student activities.
3 Unexcused Absences

Attendance contract from school is sent.

This is a recurring event for every unexcused absence accrued moving forwards. 

Students are expected to submit missed work and make any changes to behaviors that prohibit them from turning in work. Parents are expected to speak with the student, sign and return the attendance contract, and closely monitor student activities. Keep in mind that this contract is an agreement that attendance behaviors will change.
5 Unexcused Absences*

YOU ARE TRUANT. 

You will receive a letter from our district attendance office advising you of conditions of continued truancy, up to and including being taken to court and/or parent jail time.

Students are expected to reach out to EACH TEACHER to develop a plan to make up missing work. Students are expected to follow that plan and submit missed work as directed by each teacher. Student works with parent, teacher, and principal to make changes to behaviors that prohibit them from turning in work. Parents are expected to also reach out to each teacher to discuss student's progress towards making up missed work. Parents are expected to monitor student work ON A DAILY BASIS and make students show them where they are submitting work.
10 Unexcused Absences

YOU ARE TRUANT. 

Court procedures will be initiated,and you will be taken to court.

Students are expected to reach out to EACH TEACHER to develop a plan to make up missing work. Students are expected to follow that plan and submit missed work as directed by each teacher. Student works with parent, teacher, and principal to make changes to behaviors that prohibit them from turning in work. Parents are expected to also reach out to each teacher to discuss student's progress towards making up missed work. Parents are expected to monitor student work ON A DAILY BASIS and make students show them where they are submitting work. Parents need to understand that additional absences will cause the student to be dismissed from TOPS.
15 Unexcused Absences

YOU ARE TRUANT. 

Student driving privileges will be revoked by the state (including current license holders and prospective drivers.)

Students will be dismissed from TOPS.

Student is dismissed from TOPS. Parents will need to find another school for the student to attend. They must enroll the student in this school.

At any point during this process the principal and/or teachers may request a parent meeting to discuss concerns.

*After 10 days of excused absences, these same procedures will be followed
