Hello, I am Dave Collins and I am so excited to be principal at TOPS!
I am beginning my 20th year in education which have included elementary and high school settings. I have spent about eight years at the elementary level and the rest has been at the high school level, the last nine years as a high school assistant principal. My responsibilities have included being Career & Technical Education (CTE) Director, administrator supervising the Special Education Department, the Online and Distance Learning Program, the Alternative Learning Program, as well as many other smaller responsibilities.
Most of my free time is dedicated to my family and their activities. I have been married to my wife, Nikki, for 15 years and we have a son (13 years old) and a daughter (9 years old). If we are not at the baseball field with my son who plays year-round, then we are at dance, volleyball, softball, swimming, or horse riding lessons with my daughter. As you can see, my kids keep me very busy!
As many of you already know, I am the new principal of TOPS, however most of you are not aware that I am also the principal of the BTCS Alternative Program. The BTCS Alternative Program provides educational opportunities for students who have difficulty progressing in a typical classroom due to inappropriate behavior, social/ emotional issues, or other ‘at-risk’ behaviors. As you can imagine, each of these programs presents drastically different challenges each day, however they both share a common goal of providing the most appropriate educational program to each individual student to enable them to be successful now and in the future.
I look forward to the coming school year and hopefully I will have the opportunity to meet everyone throughout the year.
